Flashback Friday: A Broken Heart's Thoughts

Poetry, 2005 The cheesiest and most emo Flashback Friday yet. I'm actually quiet embarrased to post this. 2005, man. It was pungent with teenage angst. Don't judge me, please. I was young and I needed to express myself.

A Broken Heart's Thoughts

Love has gone away again
And you know your heart would never mend
You built up a wall around yourself
And swore never to be stuck in another love fest

You walk the world with no heart
Keeping yourself and love apart
You speak of no love and no care
But you know you’d love again if you dare

You’ve learned once how hurtful it could be
To love and love regretfully
But if all you’d get is a broken heart
Then you’d rather be alone than play the part

Flashback Friday: A Smile from Me

Poetry, August 2005 — I wrote this when I was fifteen and was the first post I made on my very first blog. I've been writing way before this poem, but this particular piece marked my foray into the world of blogging; I thought it would be apropos to begin with this for the first Flashback Friday post.

Reading this again honestly makes me cringe because, first, I think it's quite cheesy, and second, it made me realize how emotional I was back in high school. But for the sake of— well, I don't really know yet. I'll have to get back to you on that. Basically, I'm just letting this loose on the internet once again; with a bit of embarrassment, mind you.

A Smile From Me

You asked me if she liked you
If she liked you the way you do her
You say you’re so in love in her
But all you got was a smile from me

You give her gifts and roses
You shower he with endearments and praises
You asked me if you were doing the right thing
But all you got was a smile from me

You’re together now
As happy as the two of you can be
You asked me if I was happy for you
But all you got was a smile from me

Seeing her with you tears my soul apart
It breaks my heart
I wish I could be the one with you
But all I’m going to give
And all you are going to get is
A smile from me

On Life and Death

Art by Evija of yellingapple,tumblr.com. Original post can be found at http://yellingapple.tumblr.com/post/35454919527/quote-william-blake

Quote by William Blake

Make the most out of life. Our death is inevitable and we must accept that. Life can become a lie, a beautiful lie in fact, one that we weave to avoid reality. Death will always remain a truth. So I say choose and try to live your life the fullest way you can. I think the way to truly live is to avoid pretense, avoid just simply going through the motions, and avoid becoming complacent. There is always more to life. Never let it be said that you regret not doing the things you wanted to do and not saying the things that you needed to say. Life is the present. It's here. You can make it so that death doesn't always have to be painful and regrettable.

How Not to Deal with Negativity

You will never completely please anyone. Not everyone will like you. Some people will always have a problem with whatever you do – how you do work, the way you talk and sound, what type of shoes you’re wearing, maybe even the way you breathe in air. This is a consequence of people always having an opinion on just about anything. It doesn’t matter. People will talk and give their two cents about you and what you do – either in your face or behind your back. This is fact of life and the sooner you get over and accept this, the sooner you’ll move on. Simply put, accept the good, reject the bad, and don’t make such a big fuss about it.

To let something as trivial as negative criticism or an opinion you don’t agree with or whatever happenstance that occurred consume you so much is a ludicrous thing. How is this attitude helping you? Why not turn it around to your advantage? Prove them wrong. Get off your ass, stop complaining and do something. It’s your life. It’s your story to write, don’t let others write it for you by riding that negative cloud and allowing it to bring you to No Man’s Land where the only things that exist are doubt, regret, and resentment.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to be indifferent. Just let all that bullshit sail past you and try to remain serene in that peaceful bubble of yours. Try not to care so much. I speak from experience, it really works. Some things are not worth your time. Think about it, if you get riled up by negativity so easily, you are investing energy on something that doesn’t really matter. You could’ve used that energy towards something more positive, something that can churn out good in your life. So in the weighing scale of life which one do you add more weight to?

I’ll be honest, there are times when you need to let the frustration out. I get that. I do that. But make sure that YOU MOVE ON. Don’t dwell on it. If you keep talking about it, keep providing fodder to that infection and allowing it to fester in your mind, you’ll never be rid of it. Find a healthy way of release. Most people do things that require bursts of energy like running or other forms of exercise. If you ask some people, they’ll say they use sex to let that frustrated energy go. Some people meditate. For people that do creative work, they let it out in their art. I write. This is exactly what I’m doing right now. I’m putting my frustration on this particular subject into writing. I use this experience as inspiration. Like I’ve said before, I turned the negative into my advantage; I turned it into my inspiration.

THE SPRITE SPEECH

THE SPRITE SPEECH
By Gheraldine Taping

Esteemed ladies and gentlemen, I stand before you troubled but with conviction. I stand before you to let it be known the atrocity that has occurred in our company’s very walls. Though it may be hard to hear, I plead that you steel your nerves and listen to every word I say, for I believe all of you, my colleagues. have the right to know about that dark , cold afternoon.

On the 23rd of May, year 2012, between the hours of 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock in the afternoon, horror struck as I came to find the prized can of Sprite gone and consumed. I stood in shock and disbelief. Who would do such a thing? Whatever did the innocent can of Sprite ever do to deserve such maltreatment? I became choked up, and I was saddened by such turn of events. The culprit nowhere to be found and damning evidence at its wake.

Tell me, ladies and gentlemen, what kind of world do we live in when no can of Sprite is safe? How can you justify such injustice? In all my years of existence I have never heard of such a crime. Does not the can of Sprite deserve the same rights offered to the other cans of sodas? Do they not reserve the right to not be drunk when they are clearly not yours to drink? Do they not deserve that right, my friends?

I have learned that life is fleeting and that I must drink my can of Sprite while I still can, for any moment that joy can be robbed from you, leaving you desolate and without purpose. No beautiful can of Sprite, nothing to quench your thirst. Only the hurricane of crippling fear that it might happen again.

No one is safe, my dear friends. So I bid you to withhold your cans of Sprites from the reach of others and keep them safe, lest you regret every decision you made in life.

BACKGROUND:

Simply put, somebody drank my friend's can of Sprite at work. This is my passive-aggresive response to what happened. Obviously, this is a satire. If you have any problem with it, you can take it up with my publicist. Good luck in finding her, she doesn't exist.

BONUS TRIVIA: The constant thought while I was writing this was, "I'm an asshole."

Music for the Movie of My Life

This is something I thought would be fun to do. For the past year I've been hanging around a social site and I've been inspired by so many things for it. I thought this was quite funny so I decided to do it, too - on the site and here in my blog as well.

So here's what you have to do: put your music player on shuffle and every song that comes up will be the soundtrack to the movie of you life.

OPENING CREDITS

My Boy Builds Coffins
Florence + The Machine
Lungs

WAKING UP

Misery Business
(Unplugged Version)
Paramore
MTV Unplugged
FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL

Tore My Heart
Oona and David Tweedie
Shhhhout EP
FALLING IN LOVE

Candyman

Christina Aguilera
Back to Basics
FIGHT SONG
Hot Blooded
Foreigner
Hot Blooded and Other Hits
BREAKING UP

Hollaback Girl
Gwen Stefani
Love Angel Music Baby
LIFE'S OKAY

This Love
Maroon 5
Songs About Jane
The songs sort of make sense to me. The way I would write the script of my life movie, purely based on the song choices, would go like this:

My movie starts out miserable, having broken up with someone recently. We can relate the songs Misery Business (which is basically a song about a boyfriend-stealing skank) and Tore My Heart (I think the title says it all).

Then as the story progresses I fall in love again but Candyman would not be the first song I'd pick as the song I'd fall in love too. Perhaps my love interest is in fact a candy man who works in a candy store. I don't know, really. I just wouldn't pick that song. It's not even in my top 20.

I'm not even going to explain how Hot Blooded can be a fight song. At the most, all I can think of is angry sex. My mind is kind of in the gutter right now.

Of course, there is the inevitable break up. But I'm cool. I am a strong, independent woman. I am a BAMF. I don't need someone to complete me. Insert Hollaback Girl in scene.

This Love is actually appropriate for Life's Okay scene of my movie. I'm taking a stand in this last part of the movie and choosing not to give in and go back to a relationship gone south, after all this love has taken it's toll on me.

This whole post has been an exercise of my creative mind, though my life is not like this "movie" in any way. I was merely letting the songs write the script for me, if that makes any sense. If I did write a movie about my life, it wouldn't go like what the songs dictated.

I encourage everyone to try this little thing, even just the part with the songs. You don't have to write how your life movie will go but if you want to, go right ahead. Write an actually script if you want. Just let the creativity shine through. :]

In which I discover I am pretty handsy

I have discovered that I enjoy being crafty with my hands. Something about working and creating something hand-made makes me feel all accomplished-like and oddly peaceful.

Before, creativity with my hands was limited to pen, paper, and the stories or poems I dream up but now I have branched out to other creative, albeit more tedious, but nonetheless fun work.

I plan on doing more artsy, crafty projects and I see the need to have an Artsy Kit for my tools and materials. It's important to have tool kit of some sorts for these kinds of things. Keeps everything all organized and you tend to not end up like a chicken with its head cut off while running around looking for stuff you need.

Here are two projects I am currently working on:

One is what's called Yarn Letters which I found on this lovely site, jenloveskev.com.

It may look simple enough but it does involve a lot of work and time depending on the words you want to form. Since I'm doing something Christmas themed, I decided to do "Happy Christmas."

Yup. 14 letters. I've only just formed the "Happy" section and it took me a day just to form the letters out of cardboard and lots of tape.

If click through the link where I got this litter project, you'll see all the materials needed as well as instructions, so go check it out. Like I said, it's simple but it just takes time, so be patient while working on it and you're sure to love the end result.

I've also started on my Purple Desk Project in which I repaint my desk with my favorite color. I'm doing all the works - sanding, painting on primer, the actual painting. But it seems the weather isn't inclined to let me continue with the project. Cold weather isn't exactly your friend when your doing a paint job. The ideal color I want for the desk is more along the shades of plum and turns out I actually have to have this color mixed because there is no available ready color from any of the paint brands we have here. To give you an idea of what Plum looks like here are some sample images from art-paints.com and your reliable Google search engine:

With work as a web writer, I don't get much time to do my projects until the weekend but hopefully I'll be able to get half-way through the Yarn Letters this weekend and once the weather lets up I'll be able to start putting primer on my desk drawers.

Lastly, I encourage all of you out there (if anybody ever reads this blog) to pursue creative endeavours. It keeps you stress-free which keeps you happy, and when you're happy, I think you live longer.

and having fun."
